Members Present: Ward 1 – Bill Durkee, Kelly Durkee A. 1.) Call to Order – Robert G. Logan, Chairman

2.) Secretary’s Report – Vin Scalisi presented the minutes of the meeting of January 11, 2007. Kelly A. Durkee-Erwin requested that her name be corrected, and the minutes were amended accordingly by unanimous consent. Motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes as amended. Motion was approved on a unanimous voice vote.

3.) Chairman’s Report – The Chairman reported on the recent caucuses to elect delegates to the Democratic State Convention. The Chairman reported that he received the certification forms from Wards 1,2,3,5,6,7,8 & 9, and mailed them to the state party office. The Chairman made copies, and distributed them to those Ward Chairs in attendance. Those Chairs not in attendance can obtain copies by contacting Chairman Logan. The Chairman also announced that he had reserved the Government Center Auditorium for monthly meetings throughout 2007 (except July & August), and distributed a meeting calendar. The Steering Committee will meet monthly, before each meeting of the WDCC, at 6:30 P.M. The Steering Committee consists of the Officers of the WDCC and the Chairpersons of each Ward. Members of the WDCC who are not on the Steering Committee may, if they wish, attend and observe these meetings.

4.) Global Warming – At the last meeting a number of members, including Sam Robinson, suggested that we get involved in promoting local action on reducing greenhouse gases in our community. Chairman Logan noted that we sent a letter to the Mayor last April, and that he now intends to introduce a resolution before the Waltham City Council on this subject. He has been in contact with Susan Brown, and is working on getting a speaker on this subject for the March meeting. Also, he announced that the Climate Action Task Force of the First Parish Church in Waltham has invited us to a showing of the movie “Too Hot Not To Handle” on Thursday, February 22, at 7:00 P.M., at the Waltham Public Library Lecture Hall. Flyers for this event were distributed.

5.) Announcement – Chairman Logan announced, on behalf of Betsy Bragg who was unable to attend, that the Mass Coalition for the Homeless was having a “Legislative Action Day” at the State House on February 28, 2007. Flyers and registration forms were distributed. It was also announced that Betsy has room in her car for 3 people to ride in to this event with her.

6.) Hero’s Brunch – Event Committee Chairman Tom Barbera reported on efforts to organize this event, which will be held at the Rendezvous Restaurant on Sunday, April 22, 2007, at 1:30 P.M.. The report included a budget for the event. Tom asked the Committee for recommendations for honorees for this event. It was voted to honor Peter Koutoujian, Sr. and Eunice “Kit” Burstein. It was also voted to offer two (2)complimentary tickets each to the Brandeis Democrats and the Bentley Democrats (4 tickets total). Tom that he was having a work party at his house on Friday, February 23, 2007, at 6:60 P.M., to do the mailing for the Hero’s Brunch. Volunteers are welcome. Tom also put in a pitch for supporters to buy ads in the program book.

7.) Treasurer’s Report - Rick Scales reported a balance of $1,322 in the account.

8.) More Announcements – Susan Burstein announced that there will be a Tribute to our five-time Congressman, Father Robert Drinan. The event will take place this Sunday, February 11th at 1:30 pm in the War Memorial Auditorium at Newton City Hall. Tom Barbera noted that Rep. Tom Stanley is having a St. Patrick’s party on March 9th, and Rep. Peter Koutoujian is having an event at the Mad Raven on March 18th.

9.) Outreach – Vin Scalisi and Tom Barbera discussed outreach to the Latino community. They are both working on establishing contacts.

10.) Adjourned at 7:45PM

Ward 4 and Ward 5 held ward meetings after the full city committee adjourned.
Ward 4 elected Craig Lundberg to fill a vacancy, and Ward 5 elected George Carroll.

Next Meeting: March 8, 2007, at 7:00 P.M., at the Government Center.
