Waltham Democratic City Committee

Minutes

Meeting of Thursday, June 14, 2007, 7:00 P.M.

Government Center, 119 School Street, Waltham, MA 02451

**************************************************************

Present: Robert G. Logan, Susan Burstein, Rick Scales, Ed Tarallo, Tom Barbera, Patrice McGregor, Nadene Stein, Alan Muir, David Sandison, Kelly Durkee-Erwin, Rhonda Bourne.

Chairman Logan called the meeting to order at 7:10PM.

Discussion on speakers for future meetings. Decided to invite John Walsh (Chairman of Mass Democratic Party) and Lt. Governor Tim Murphy as guest speakers. If we are successful in scheduling them to speak, we should try to expand the audience by inviting Democratic Committees from surrounding communities, the Third Middlesex Area Democrats (3rd MAD), the Brandeis Democrats, and the Bentley Democrats.

Discussed trying to sponsor a debate for the Mayoral candidates, possibly a joint effort with the Republican City Committee, for September 20th. Chairman Logan appointed Nadene Stein, Kelly Durkee-Erwin, and Patrice McGregor to a committee to investigate the feasibility of this idea and organizing a debate if possible.

Alan Muir talked about blogging and Blue Mass Group.

Susan Burstein spoke about Election Reform including “Same Day Registration” and proposed changes to the way Electoral College votes are distributed. She mentioned that there is a national group working on this and that perhaps someone from that group could speak at one of our meetings. She will get the information about the group for us.

Kelly Durkee-Erwin suggested that we could sponsor an educational event at the Waltham High School in the Spring for Seniors turning 18 years old.

Meeting adjourned at 8:30PM.

Next Meeting: September 20, 2007 at 7:00PM in the Auditorium of Government Center, 119 School Street, Waltham.
